The story of the Jim Moody Paint Company starts with Ed Fagerquist, the only son of a Swedish immigrant who settled in northwest Oklahoma City after World War II. A gifted artist, muralist, and decorative painter, Ed taught union painters’ schools and frequently put his students to work in the field. In the late 1970’s, Ed’s youngest grandchild, Jim Moody, entered apprenticeships with his then-semiretired grandfather, Ed, and Don Brooksher, another well-respected Oklahoma City housepainter. During these apprenticeships, Jim gained invaluable experience in residential repainting techniques and new construction painting practices. In 1980, Jim founded Jim Moody Paint Company.
Jim had an aptitude for color matching and developed his own finishing techniques for woodwork that were durable and easy to maintain by using traditional varnishes and oil-based enamels that withstand moisture and sunlight better than the clear and pigmented lacquers which have been commonly used since the 1960’s.
During his 40 years in business, Jim has developed key relationships with prominent Oklahoma City architects and interior designers including Carson See, Jim Frazier, and Fanny Bolen, who have been referring Jim to their clients for years due to his keen ability to match special finishes and colors.
While Jim Moody Paint Company is known for specializing in new construction, the company provides a host of other services including furniture finishes on cabinetry, interior repaints, drywall repairs, and exterior repaints.
